WHO WE ARE

Firefighters for 9/11 Truth is an international alliance of active and retired fire-service professionals, supported by independent experts and concerned citizens.

Founded in 2008, we came together because the responsibilities of the fire service do not end when a fire is extinguished. When firefighters and civilians are killed, we have a duty to understand what happened, examine the evidence, learn every possible lesson, and speak when important questions remain unanswered.

Our work began with September 11, 2001. Today, it has become part of something larger: a commitment to remembrance, truth, responsibility, peace, and the future we create together.

REMEMBRANCE

Twenty-five years ago, 2,977 people were killed in the September 11 attacks, including 343 FDNY firefighters, 8 on-duty EMTs and paramedics—including 2 FDNY EMS paramedics and 6 from hospital, private, and volunteer ambulance services—one New York Fire Patrol member, 37 Port Authority police officers, 23 NYPD officers, six fire safety directors, and 12 security officers.

We remember every life lost. We remember their families, the survivors, and the responders who continue to live with 9/11-related illnesses. We remember where we were, what we witnessed, and what changed within us that day.

We remember the fear and confusion—but also the extraordinary courage, compassion, and love. Firefighters climbed toward danger. Strangers helped strangers. For a time, our differences became smaller than our shared humanity.

We also remember what followed. In our grief and fear, many of us accepted what we were told, and our nation went to war. Brown University’s Costs of War project estimates that the post-9/11 wars have caused approximately 4.5 to 4.7 million direct and indirect deaths. Millions more have been injured, displaced, or traumatized.

Remembering all of this is difficult. But honest remembrance asks us not to turn away.

RESOLVE

Twenty-five years later, we have an opportunity to pause, reflect, and choose how we will move forward.

We can no longer outsource truth.

That does not mean rejecting expertise or assuming we already possess every answer. It means accepting responsibility for what we believe. It means examining evidence, asking necessary questions, listening to different perspectives, and having the courage to change our understanding when the facts require it.

We can no longer outsource responsibility.

Government agencies, professional organizations, experts, and institutions all have important roles—but none can relieve us of our responsibility as firefighters, citizens, and human beings. Public trust requires participation, transparency, accountability, and the willingness to speak when something is wrong.

This is where remembrance becomes resolve.

WHAT WE STAND FOR

  • We stand for evidence over assumption.

  • We stand for open inquiry over silence.

  • We stand for accountability without hatred and courage without aggression.

  • We stand for the right to ask difficult questions—and the responsibility to pursue answers carefully, honestly, and respectfully.

  • We stand for firefighters and citizens learning together so that the lessons of catastrophic events are preserved and future lives are protected.

  • We stand for a world in which truth is not used as a weapon against one another, but as a foundation for understanding, healing, and responsible action.

OUR ROLE AS FIREFIGHTERS

The fire service is built upon public trust. People call us in their most vulnerable moments because they believe we will come, tell the truth about what we find, and do everything possible to protect life.

That trust carries a responsibility.

We must remain willing to examine evidence, learn from failure, question incomplete explanations, and advocate for investigations that are transparent, thorough, and consistent with accepted standards.

We honor fallen firefighters not only by remembering how they died, but by ensuring that every possible lesson is carried forward for those who will answer the alarm tomorrow.

A THRIVING HUMANITY IS POSSIBLE

September 11 showed us the terrible consequences of fear, division, and violence. It also revealed something more powerful: ordinary people choosing courage, compassion, and service.

We believe that spirit can guide what comes next.

When people come together with love, acceptance, humility, and a shared commitment to truth, change becomes possible. Not change imposed from above, but change created through millions of people accepting responsibility for how they think, speak, choose, and act.

We did not create every condition we inherited, but together we participate in what happens next.

The ripple begins with each of us.

JOIN US

We invite firefighters, first responders, families, researchers, and citizens everywhere to join us—from remembrance to resolve.

Remember what was lost.

Examine what we have learned.

Accept responsibility for what comes next.

Stand together for truth, accountability, peace, and a thriving future for all.
